Psychology Says Be Her Best Friend. Jen Says Be Her Mother.
Modern parenting often treats kids like projects—charts, rewards, quick fixes that feel hollow. The Bible’s way centers who children are, relationships, and steady rhythms: modeling, loving boundaries, and shaping character, not just compliance.
I tried charts and incentives; they stopped whining briefly but made us mechanically obedient and emotionally distant. Switching to biblical parenting meant slowing down, modeling mercy and humility, and teaching identity first (“you are loved and can grow”). Boundaries came from care, and discipline from grace.
It didn’t fix everything immediately, but it brought real connection, less chaos, and kids who understand why we do things. Modern tools help, but rooted in relationship and soul formation, change lasts.
